What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin® is an FDA-approved prescription neurotoxin containing incobotulinumtoxinA.

Like Botox, Xeomin works by temporarily reducing muscle activity in targeted areas. When those muscles relax, expression lines caused by repeated movement can appear softer and smoother.

Xeomin is sometimes described as a more purified or “naked” neurotoxin because its manufacturing process removes accessory proteins from the formulation.

That doesn't automatically make Xeomin better than Botox. They're different products, and our job is to determine which treatment makes the most sense for you.

Xeomin for the Masseter Muscles

We frequently use Xeomin to treat the masseter muscles, the strong muscles along the sides of the jaw that help with chewing.

For clients with prominent or very strong masseter muscles, strategically placed Xeomin can temporarily reduce muscle activity. Depending on the reason for treatment, this may help soften the appearance of a wider or more square jawline caused by enlarged masseter muscles.

Some clients also ask us about masseter treatment because they experience jaw clenching or tension. During your consultation, we'll evaluate your masseter muscles, discuss what you're experiencing and determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.

Masseter treatment typically requires more units than smaller facial areas, so the total number of Xeomin units will vary based on your muscle strength, anatomy and treatment goals.

Because masseter treatment is individualized, your provider will recommend your dose after evaluating you in person.

Xeomin for the Neck & Platysmal Bands

Another area where we especially like having Xeomin as an option is the neck.

The platysma is a thin muscle that extends from the lower face into the neck. As it contracts, some people develop noticeable vertical neck bands or downward pull along the lower face and jawline.

Strategically placed Xeomin can temporarily relax targeted areas of the platysma, helping soften the appearance of these bands and the downward pull caused by muscle activity.

Neck treatment requires careful evaluation and precise placement, so your provider will determine whether you're an appropriate candidate and how much product should be used.

Xeomin vs. Botox: What's the Difference?

Both Botox® Cosmetic and Xeomin® are prescription neurotoxins that temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity. Both can be used to soften expression lines, but their formulations are not identical.

Botox contains onabotulinumtoxinA along with accessory proteins.

Xeomin contains incobotulinumtoxinA and is manufactured without the accessory proteins found in some other neurotoxins.

Does that mean everyone should switch from Botox to Xeomin? No.

At New You Aesthetic, Botox remains our primary neurotoxin because we love the results we see with it. Xeomin simply gives us another option when we believe it may be appropriate for a particular client or treatment area.

Aesthetic medicine isn't one-size-fits-all, and we'd rather have options than try to make one product do every job.

How Much Does Xeomin Cost?

Xeomin at New You Aesthetic is $11 per unit.

The number of units you need will depend on the area being treated, your muscle strength, anatomy and individual goals.

Your provider will evaluate the treatment area and discuss the recommended number of units and total cost with you before treatment.

What Should I Expect During a Xeomin Appointment?

Your appointment begins with a consultation and assessment.

We'll talk about what is bothering you, evaluate your facial or neck movement and determine whether Xeomin, Botox or another treatment makes the most sense for your goals.

If Xeomin is appropriate, your provider will inject small amounts into carefully selected muscles. Treatment itself is generally quick, and most clients return to their normal routine afterward. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions before you leave.

When Will I See Results From Xeomin?

Xeomin doesn't produce its final result immediately. You may begin noticing changes within several days following treatment, with results continuing to develop over the following days.

Your provider will explain when to expect your final result based on the areas being treated.

How Long Does Xeomin Last?

For many clients, neurotoxin results last approximately three to four months, although this varies from person to person.

The treatment area, dose, muscle strength and individual metabolism can all affect how long your results last.

Rather than automatically treating on a fixed schedule, we'll help you determine when it makes sense to return based on your individual response.

Will Xeomin Make Me Look Frozen?

Our goal isn't to erase every bit of movement from your face.

We use Xeomin strategically to relax targeted muscles while keeping the overall result natural. Some clients prefer more movement. Others prefer a smoother result. Tell us what you like.

Is Xeomin Right for Me?
